PORTA PORTESE
Every Sunday in Rome, down by the river in Trastevere, a massive flea market called PORTA PORTESE comes to life. Walk through a towering stone arch and you’re suddenly in a wonderland of stalls, shouting vendors, and treasure hunters on the move.
Armed with a sunrise coffee, I ventured out.
My mission? To hunt for antiques. Each country has its own quirky gems, and I was curious to see what Roman flea markets had to offer.
To my surprise, I stumbled upon matryoshkas and all sorts of USSR-era relics — like opening a time capsule from my childhood. But most of the market was filled with cheap clothes and leather goods, and after two hours of wandering, I was completely wiped out.
My only find? A tiny silver-plated apple that used to hold sugar. Just 1€, and it’s absolutely charming. A small, forgotten art object — and now, a memory from Rome.
