Inspiring Drawing Session With Tyler Keeton Robbins
Yesterday, I met a contemporary artist from Canada whose work I’ve been following on Instagram for about 8 years. Tyler reached out to me with an offer to meet in Lisbon, where he was passing through on his way to Funchal.
We walked around the old town and talked about life and art and spent time drawing outdoors. It was the best January 1st and the best gift Santa could have given me! Watching the drawing process of such a professional as Tyler was an indescribable delight for me.
To be honest, it was the first time I saw someone use watercolor by layering transparent washes — it’s absolutely incredible. I was also amazed by the number of sketchbooks he carries with him;
if I’m not mistaken, I counted six.
I’ve been buzzing with excitement for two days now and have such a strong urge to draw. I’m grateful for social media and the fact that I live in Europe, which allows me to meet such wonderful, luminous people who are imbued with a unique perspective, processing the world around them through their own special lens. And how pleasant it was to discuss what shapes our inspiration or productivity levels. At some points I realized we think the same.
At the end of the meeting, Tyler gave me one of his paintings, and I, in return, made a few linear doodles for him and gifted him one of my pencil compositions from the “Nature” series. Now all that’s left is to frame his painting and pass it down through generations!
